Advancing biofuels adoption

Proterro is working to remove the biggest barrier to market adoption of biofuels, which is the combined cost of cultivation, harvest, transport and processing of feedstock.

Through a novel, patent-pending biosynthetic process, Proterro can resolve the feedstock challenge by delivering non-agriculture-based, fermentation-ready sugar at a cost lower than sugarcane, corn or other energy crops.

Company milestones

Since its founding in April 2008, Proterro has:

• completed gene integration and demonstrated high sucrose productivity;
• built a photobioreactor “breadboard” and demonstrated scale-up;
• devised a robust economic model that shows Proterro’s fermentation-ready sugar to cost well below current market alternatives; and
• demonstrated consistent high sucrose productivity in its laboratory, as well as at two independent greenhouse sites
